The Compassion of Jesus

Compassion and Service

Charles Swindoll wrote, "Who really cared? His was a routine admission to busy Bellevue Hospital. A charity case, one among hundreds. A drunken bum from the Bowery with a slashed throat. The Bowery … last stop before the morgue.
"The derelict's name was misspelled on the hospital form, but then what good is a name when the guy's a bum? The age was also incorrect. He was thirty-eight, not thirty-nine, and looked twice that. Somebody might have remarked, "What a shame for one so young," but no one did. Because no one cared.
"His health was gone and he was starving. He had been found lying in a heap, bleeding from a deep gash in his throat. A doctor used black sewing thread to suture the wound. Then the man was dumped in a paddy wagon and dropped off at Bellevue Hospital, where he languished and died. But nobody really cared.

"A friend seeking him was directed to the local morgue. There, among dozens of other nameless corpses, he was identified. When they scraped together his belongings, they found a ragged, dirty coat with thirty-eight cents in one pocket and a scrap of paper in the other. All his earthly goods. Enough coins for another night in the Bowery and five words, "Dear friends and gentle hearts." Almost like the words of a song, someone may have thought.
"Which would have been correct, for once upon a time that man had written the songs that literally made the whole world sing. Songs like "Camptown Races," "Oh! Susanna," "Beautiful Dreamer," "I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair," "Old Folks at Home," "My Old Kentucky Home," and two hundred more that have become deeply rooted in our rich American heritage. "Brought Out to Be Brought In..."

Genesis 15:6-7

6 Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

7 He also said to him, "I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldean to give you this land to take possession of it."

The Patriarch himself, Abraham, was considered righteous because of his faith.
Since the beginning it's always been "Faith"...in the one God who led the people out of slavery in Egypt and "Faith" in the beloved son of God who came according to His Father's plan to provide
deliverance from the slavery of sin by offering a justification (made right before God) based
on the blood shed on the Cross.
Abraham was called to leave his home in Ur and to travel to a land far away through the desert, all on a promise of God to provide a land, Canaan, and descendants as numbered as
the grains of sand. Abraham left the security of home and moved in answer to God's plan.
God's plan for His people, Israelites, required a bringing out of Egypt. God did it in His own time and then delivered His commandments and instructions for the Temple.
They were brought out!

So many other examples of in the Scripture speak of those who were called out for a particular
purpose at a specific time. God's control of history has held as true as his prophecies.
They were brought out!

Many times we experience adversity and many times we falter. Famous examples of Abraham Lincoln losing elections prior to becoming a resident for all time. Thomas Edison failure over 1000 experiments before inventing the light bulb. God has to Bring us out of the darkness of failure or misunderstanding in order for Him to bring us into a relationship with Him.
Just be still and allow God to guide. He will bring us oUT !

W
hen it all finds its way south

and doubt
runs rampant through the mind...
i find
a time for quiet.

when it all seems further north

and I'm back and forth
with thoughts of every kind...
i find
a time for quiet.

when it all holds east or west
and my best
still leaves me far behind

I find picture by Melinda Holloway a time for quiet.

O God
I'm still
Thrill me with Your voice...in my heart.
Impart
what I need for this day.
Protect me from evil
and help me stay
within Your Will

May the sparrows find open barns
and still....sing in the rain.

"God's Wordsmith"

The wordsmith is comparable to the painter.
He fills a canvas with experiences of life.
He spills
his heart as well as colors
all in the the process of sharing.
So much of writings for me
are of what I wish would be..
I see
a plethorea of words
just waiting for the ascribing...
Those just set to encourage
and revive
a spirit of simplicity
in a complex world...
Founded on the base colors
but not fearful to extend a palette..
 waiting for a broad brush...
and a telling phrase.

The beauty of the art
is not in the writing on paper...
but a scripting on the heart...
A message of caring.
An honest conveyance
that being a part
of another's day...
is truly a gift of God.

"...While the Dew is still on the Roses..." Easter Revisited

Matthew 26:36 (New International Version)

36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray.""
Gethsemane..Outside Jerusalem

..."the victory of the hill was won in the grove..."
              S.D. Gordon

Just a small garden outside Jerusalem became one of the two most famous in the Bible.
The other became a sinful Garden of Eden and this Garden of Gethsemane became
ground for prayer in the midst of a historical betrayal and even a denial by the leader of His disciples.

What draws my attention is the first part of verse 36. Jesus must have been aware that the disciples he took along with him would not be able to last all night in prayer, but  he set the example for them then as He did for all. In His pain of rejection by those who had declared their Hosannah's on His arrival, Jesus took the cup willingly and set about
to horrendous physical pain.

This gives me rise for a further consideration of the hymn "In the Garden."  This song eludes to coming to the garden "alone". Truly there are many things we have to do alone.
More specifically, our acceptance of Jesus as the Messiah and surrender to Him as Lord.
But, then there are times when we face major events in our lives. Those that test the very essence of our strength and spirit within.  It's my belief that... that Thursday night
in the garden was to finalize His teachings to His disciples on who He was, what He had to do and then where He would have to go.  He was far less focused on the pain to come than the possibility that the people would not understand his favorite title "Son of Man".
God became a man in the incarnation in order that we may be able to see what He would be, if in body and not spirit.  Jesus chose not to use divine powers and lived among us as a man...thus the Son of Man, and the Son of God.

I am a simple man and there is so much I don't understand.  I do however, know the importance of coming to that point of confronting and the need for others God provides.
Those who have special insight, a willingness to share....Those Who Care.

For me, a lesson to remember. When times seem unbearable, we should be so blessed to have true friends, who will objectively help us through the hardest of times, and be a constant resource as we overcome, in Christ.  A wise move would be to take them with us, in body or mind.

O Lord...
I'll sing a simple song
For I'm a simple man.
I'll move along
doing in the best I can.
But when my day is done..
with the setting sun...
I'll sing that simple song
to the Holy One....
for at his feet
I'll lay a crown
and beckon to His every command.
It's simple this faith of mine...
It's a complex world by His hand.
It’s simple by measure…
But so much the treasure
To have special friends to walk along.
But as the sparrow sings.
My voice will ring..
It's a simple song
from a simple man…

In Contemplation and Reflection...

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
Paul spoke to young Timothy while.. alas..
he waited for him to..."come before winter...".  Paul, in spite of being well learned under Gamaliel, was blunt but not arrogant. He and Timothy built a relationship that was so important to Paul that he spoke of Timothy as"my son in the faith" (1Timothy 1:2).   The Gospel Message in meant to be shared.
Jesus made it clear on his leaving. Jesus' ultimate command to his followers is to go out to every corner of the world and share the good news of his salvation. Christians today continue to carry out that charge through personal evangelism and mission work.

Paul spent time in his missionary journeys answering questions and sharing the teachings
of Jesus.  No less should we prepare to be His witness each day.

"Lord forgive me when I whine.,.."

Romans 8:35-39

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord

Paul does not speak of being resolute in our peril, distress and tragedies.
But to remember that in all things we are conquerors.
We may not be able to reconstitute our bodies, or to change circumstances, but we can
overcome them
through the love of our Savior, Jesus...
who promised if we accept Him in our hearts, confess Him with out mouth,
and believe that God hath raised Him from the dead...
We will be saved.
John 10:10.....

Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities.
It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my    soul.
Don't give up. Don't ever give up.
 Jim Valvano

"O Lord forgive me when I whine..."
Grant me courage to get back up
many..many times.
Show me the way in the darker hours
Fill me with Your Grace and power.
Allow me the joy..even mediocrity can bring
Create in me the clean
and yielding heart...
such that I can sing
with the birds in early morn.
Though tossed and torn
The scars of victory
should be worn
to speak to others
of the offer....a new start
in Christ Jesus.

   Amen

Ne're has been a time
When God won't supply.
Those in need…
Truly can feed
At his table of FAITH.

Ne're has been a time
When God won't answer.
Those who plant seed.
Those who care enough
To stand tall.

Ne're has been a time
When God would not bless.
Those whose goals
Are success
In doing His will.

Stand in the gap - a Christian perspective
Ezekiel 22:30 (New International Version)

30 "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.

Ne're has been a time
When God won't hold
Those who care
In the palm of his hand.

Those who stand !
Filling the....gap.

Peace with Friends....

Psalm 133:1-3 (New International Version)
A song of ascents. Of David.

1 How good and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in unity!
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron's beard,
down upon the collar of his robes.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
Even life forevermore.

 Words come easy
and from the heart...
to those who have become such a part...
 of our lives.
The canvas is being filled every day...
Rembrandt Relationships are easy to paint....
easy to treasure
but never easy to leave

I cannot make the music in song but I love the words and my dear friends:
Our God must smile wide and open when friends share and use old stories as entertainment. He must just pat His Son on the back and say....they took your message to heart and found joy and peace in each other...and worshipping a wonderful God who sent the perfect example of love and understanding...

All while passing through a world just waiting for someone who cares....
Filled with laughter and tears
with song and rejoice.

Morning with God !

And when morning comes
The dew disappears
But not my fears
Not my anticipation…
Not my need for imagination.
I imagine
A time of peace…
One where there is a cease
 of turmoil

A release…
Of love for the world

And a move to be so much more...
than we are.
Much more of what God has called.

Psalm 5:3 (New International Version)The psalmist says that God hears his voice in the morning. He says that it is in the morning that he prays to God with his requests. He notes that he lays out his petitions and waits for God to respond.  The hardest four letter word there is...WAIT!.
3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation.

As the little chidren sing...In His Time...In His Time. God makes all things wonderful... In His time.  God promised to hear and answer our prayers, but not always yes and not on our schedule, either way.  Making ourselves available for early morning communion with our God, lets Him know of our understanding of His call to prayer and His promise to hear.

We will all face troubles and trials during our lives, but this verse puts it in perspective, reminding us that suffering will always be followed by peace and restoration. As the song makes clear..."The Anchor Holds"...in the midst of the storm.
Jesus is our anchor and a prevalent force in our world today. We worship a living God who has been tempted as us, but sinned notl
“Morning Calm” “

Lord...There is a calm
About early morning
It just brings comfort
In quiet
All may not be perfect
Nor my actions right
But God is in control
His mercy untold.
His promise is to be with you and me
And will hear our prayers…
I hold.

"Mind Travel"

Listen and relax for a few moments. Travel to a place
where it's quiet and serene.
A place where sparrows sing
and nature floods our view
all as we find exactly who...
we are...want to be....

Painting by Betsy Mountcastle

Isaiah 26:3 (New International Version)
3 You will keep in perfect peace
him whose mind is steadfast,
because he trusts in you.

How do we find true peace in life? It's a question that countless people have asked how
to obtain.  Isaiah made a prouncement that one who is steadfast and trust God will
find peace.  It's that perfect peace that passes understanding and leads us in a daily routine of dependence.

Lord,
grant us peace.

Release

us from that which mars

our time with you...

that which scars

our hearts and clutters our mind.

Lead us down your path

until we find

and accomplish Your Will...

and enjoy the abundance you have planned.

We humbly ask for Christ sake.....Amen.

Can You Imagine...?

I cannot imagine
how some can overlook
creation to pin it on a big bang.
Even as the birds sing
and folks go on and about...
it has been revealed as the sparrow sang...
in rain and shine.
Mine...is both in creation and conscious
that God would provide free....
what many fail to see...
and mark us with an inner sense
of right and wrong...
and a marvelous place in which to belong
and to grow in His Grace.
When at last we come face to face
and knees bow and mountains sing..
to that Cross we can only cling...
and present ourselves as the expectant bride...
for an eternity with the God and Master
in Heaven to reside.

Lord,
Remove our blinders
that we may see
and perceive the beauty of Your world.
Unfurl
the essence of You Son...
There is no other way to the  Father...
than through His only Begotten...
whose name is Truth, Life, and Prince...
of Peace.
