Luke 22:42
“Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
Commentary:
As the hour of his death drew nearer, Jesus called his disciples to the garden of Gethsemane for prayer. Jesus used the opportunity to rebuke his disciples for falling asleep during prayer--and it is here that Judas, the betrayer, arrived with a band of soldiers to arrest him.
Jesus had prayed for relief from the scourging and horrible death to come, but He was willing, with no hesitation, to move forward as His Father expected. Just as Jesus presented His followers with an example in life, He provided the ultimate show of obedience in following God's Will. Indeed we do not have a Savior who has not experienced our temptations and enticements, but He did so without falling victim to the sin of this world.
As Jesus went from Golgotha to Gethsemane, let us, as believers, move from an old nature to a new nature. One that demands a surrender of self and succumbing to His Will.
"From Gethsemane to Golgotha"
To Gethsemane went our Lord
to pray for courage to do
what had been prophesied.
An earnest prayer
bringing about a sweating of tears...
for the betrayal by those who lied.
To Gethsemane he went to face the danger
brought about by those who brought false charges
and persisted that he be arrested and tried.
A "kangaroo court" brought about our Savior's suffering
and left him with a crown of thorns and a fatal pierced side...
after a agonizing experience before a lowly demise.
For the Crucifixion of our Lord...
the greatest battle ever fought by any single individual...
Came upon a heartbreaking display of denial.
So the story from Gethsemane to Golgotha
is one ending in an astounding Resurrection...
all in answer to the Prophets of old...
"He was born.....to die".

John 19:30 (New International Version)
30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
