Song of Solomon 2
Beloved [a]
1 I am a rose [b] of Sharon,
a lily of the valleys.
a lily of the valleys.
The Rose of Sharon was most likely not a rose at all; but a flowering more along the lines of a lily and part of the crocus family. The beauty and majesty from the valley-plain of Palestine. The flower was spoken of by the Shulamate woman who most likely was Solomon's bride to be. It was considered the flower of perfection indicating such for the beauty of the betrothed of Solomon.
As so many times is the case, the Old Testament serves as witness to the Messiah
and describes him through interaction with His Church. On His coming for His Bride (the Church) Jesus will make the imperfect...perfect. The expanse of His Love will match the fragrance of knowledge just as even the smallest of our prayers are the fragrance of Heaven. As the rain and sun impart growth and nourishment to Sharon's prize; just so
our Lord imparts the truth that moves the knowledge of love into a love of a resulting wisdom.
Revelation 5:8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints
Jesus, Rose of Sharon, bloom within my heart;
Beauties of Thy truth and holiness impart,
That where’er I go my life may shed abroad
Fragrance of the knowledge of the love of God.
Beauties of Thy truth and holiness impart,
That where’er I go my life may shed abroad
Fragrance of the knowledge of the love of God.
